All Cordillera NBA Finals: Burnham Lakers vs the Bontoc Celtics

Time to resurrect the old joke. Here's the real (fantasy) Bontoc Celtics.
This BTW is a photo of the Mexico-RP Olympics basketball match in 1936. Look at the net, the shorts, the open court, the no-box out rebound and the greasy hair.

Yano takes over as 38th AFP Chief: Philippine Star Headline

Who among them? Si Dong Abay o si Eric Gancio. Sabay sila?

So pasilip nga yung Star uli? "Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano will be installed today..." Ay puteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. Para, mama. Para! Maglakad na lang ako. Puteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

What is Your NBA Nickname?

Mine is "Sterling."
Before that it was "The Pancreas." What's that? The Pancreas misses an easy lay-up. Get an insulin shot, stoopid!

The Ting Tings

Yes, there's such a band. Vocalist/ guitarist Katie White and drummer Jules De Martino began the Ting Tings in 2006 after an ill-fated career in Dear Eskiimo, and after their fair share of underground hype, signed to Columbia for the release of debut We Started Nothing in May. Their yet unknown records include "Great DJ," "Shut Up & Let Me Go," and "That's Not My Name".
I think they would be better off with Tingting Cojuangco on brass knuckles and Joey Marquez, convicted for overpricing walis tingting while mayor of Paranakyu, on timpani.

Mike and Joselito

AP in Spain made a funny error when it called First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo a famous Spanish bullfighter. As it turned out, there is a Juan Miguel Arroyo who is a famous Spanish bullfighter but I think they call him, "Joselito." FG, on other hand, is Mike. So you would know the difference:

Chaka

Chaka is one of the foundations of our gayspeak. Beauty may be skin deep but chaka lives on forevah! Our common etymology is that chaka came from Menchu Menchaca, a 70s model but then Menchu is beautiful naman while chaka is pangit, ugly. So I thought it came from Chaka Khan, the singer who may not be beautiful but the voice is still beautiful. Until i joined this conference and found out that chakkah (with an h) means eunuch in Pakistan. Anyway, some social scientists interviewed about 300 of them in Lahore and found out that almost all are sex workers and 80 percent have sex daily. Now you know what eunuch is. No? They are unique (another of the pronounciation). I am surprised that eight percent have vaginal sex. Hmmm. It was a poster presentation and I kept on going back to see who is the social scientist and to help me see if chakkahs are chaka indeed. He never showed up.

Bruce Lee

Waht else do you know about Bruce Lee that I don't know? Ha ha ha. Don't call you child "Phoenix." Because Bruce, who's partly German also, was named "Sai Fon" or "Little Phoenix." Chinese sometimes name their sons with a girls name like Little Phoenix and their daughters with a man's name like "Phoenix Suns" to confuse the Devil but they end up confusing themselves and the Civil Registry. So like River Phoenix, Bruce Lee died like a comet and will live again. He was the Cha Cha champion of Hong Kong and has a notbook of the different combinations of cha cha moves. He never lost a fight but Trobador Ramos had been telling us that he did beat him. Tsing Tsong Tsai said he beat Trobador but I should not write about that. Bruce Lee is also a boxing champion. More on him later. You know what i used to crave? His yellow tracksuit (some said jumpers) until Uma Thurman used her won in Kill Bill. I said to myself, Sa iyo na. She can have it. What can we do? She owned us with that one. Now I wish I can own her.

Chinese Screen Names

I am cleaning my bag when I saw this list of names at the back of one concert ticket. These are the names of Chinese actors, actress and others in the HK and Taiwanese movies with nice names. Well, you know Run Run Shaw, how about:
Moon Lee
Casanova Wong
Ringo Lam
Noodle Cheng, who reminds you of:
Curry Lau, director of "Ultimate Vampire"
Season Ma, actress famous for "The First Time is The Last Time" and "Boat People" where she co-stars with Cora Miao (catty!!)
Tomato Chan

Well, you know Maggie Cheung but why do they always use the full name "Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk" which is not really good. Or Elvis Tsui who is more completely known as "Elvis Tsui Kam-Kong."
Well, at least Ridley Tsui is just that.

Numbers Name

I read yesterday the byline of Margie Cinco of the PDI Southern Luzon Bureau. She should write her name Margie 5. But you know what, there's a New York Times writer named Jennifer 8. Lee? Her middle name is a number. I think she is Taiwanese-American and you know how Taiwanese love numbers. Remember F4? I don't know why she has to have a period though. So should she be Jennifer Eight point Lee.

Religious Name

Inquirer columnist Pam Pastor complained:
I was 10 years old when R.E.M. released the song “Losing My Religion. And because this was before I discovered the magic of reading between the lines and the horrors of people not saying what they actually mean, I found the song amusing. Here was this guy whining about losing his religion while I had one too many. I remember thinking about giving him one of mine to make both our lives easier. Yes, I grew up with two religions. My dad’s side of the family is Catholic while my maternal grandparents head a Born Again Christian church.

I say, Haller. Your name is Pam Pastor. You can't help it. I don't know about the hundreds of thousands of Delos Santoses and Dela Cruzes but my friends who have religious surnames are bound by religion. I used to have a classmate named Ethel Simbahan. Her father was I think already a priest but he was lured out of it. And then there's Marianne Catedral, PR extraordinaire, who almost became a nun. Now, she's a King. Married to a King in Texas. Hindi kami beso-beso ni Cardinal Sin but his surname also is a big factor on why he became a cardinal.

Surname

There is a Surname Internet Database site which has 50,000 surnames in store. I typed mine and this is what I got:

Surname: Cimatu
Sorry we have yet to research the origin of the surname Cimatu

But don't despair :-) We still endeavour to research about 10 surnames a month. To make sure that we can serve as many people as possible we have a scheme for researching the names with the most interest.

We measure this by the number of people watching a surname, we will research the names from the top of this list. So register with us and add the surnames your interested in to your watch list, and we will email you when these names get updated.

There are currently no people watching this surname.

Unfazed, I googled my name and found out this random things about other Cimatus all over the Internet:

Etheline Cimatu of the MEXA Alumni Association of Cal Poly helped start a fundraising in their school. You can donate any idle cellphone in your home and they would sell it or have it recycled. They estimated 500 million cellphones stacked somewhere in your house or car. Edmar Cimatu was elected treasurer of XPO Epsilon Chapter. Katherine Cimatu of the University of Hawaii, together with Steven Baldelli, wrote "Sum frequency generation microscopy of microcontact-printed mixed self-assembled monolayers." Edward Cimatu is in the Dean's List of the College of Business of the San Francisco State University. Alexandra was one of nine junior volunteers of the Auxiliary at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to receive a $250 scholarship award. Janice Cimatu failed to win a seat in the De Anza University Student Board in Cupertino, CA only because she withdrew before the election. Artemio Calvan Cimatu, 63, died last July 15, 2006 in Honolulu. He was born in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. And lastly, Jennifer Coliflores voted her grandmother Trifuna Cimatu Acosta as her hero. "It is now my junior year in high school, and at time life is as stressful and hectic as junior year can bring. However I always remember that my grandma is there with me in spirit, guiding me along the way. My memories of her will always be in my heart. Along my path in life, whether it be filled with troubles or happiness, my grandmother Trifuna Cimatu Acosta will be always be there as my guardian angel," Jennifer said of her grandma. Trifuna died of cancer.
