Glowing Cats

Three kittens in Korea were cloned by manipulating a fluorescent protein gene. The press release siad that the cloing "could help develop treatments for human genetic diseases." That may seem the best way to justify what the Korean scientists really wanted all along: a glowing cat. Under UV rays, the cats (they were born last January) do glow.

Coffee, Women and Koreans

In Boston, someone found out that men are served faster in coffeeshops. They said that it takes 20 seconds faster for the men to get their latte. They cry, discrimination. In Starbucks in Baguio, the Koreans are served longer. It's hard to cry discrimination if you take into account that they comprise 70 percent of the customers there. Yes, it's more of the language problem. But 15 days into the Starbucks diary promo, a barista told me that dozens of Koreans there already claimed theirs. That's a lot of beans!

Charice

Charice Pempengco joined South Korea's talent show known as "Star King" last October 12 and blew the teenyboppers away with her song, "And i am Telling You." Now the blog universe has spread the news around that there's a Korean girl with an amazing voice. Charice is Pinoy. She just had her hair pulled to make her look Korean a little bit. Take that, Sandara Park! And to think, Charice was only 3rd in the Little Big Star contest ng ABS-CBN, behind Sam Concepcion and Gian Barbarona. Too young to tell but again ABS-CBN showed its flair of missing on the real big decisions.

Kimchi

Once upon a time in Baguio, more specifically in our neighborhood in New Lucban, in front of the house of retired city fiscal Benny Carantes, there was a chapel ministered by a Korean couple. This was a time when you can count the number of Koreans in Baguio in less than a minute. Most of this Christian Korean couple’s parishioners then came from Bayabas in La Trinidad. One time, they decided that one particular October night is the end of the world. So they were all praying and crying so loud that Fiscal Carantes came out in his pajamas maybe saying, WTF? It was the eve of the end of the world, I told him. Then the next day, there was no end of the world. The parishioners from Bayabas were so angry that they took whatever they can from the chapel (which is now a billiard den) and destroyed what they could not. Read more
