6666666666

Someone sent this: "The estimated population of the world will pass 6,666,666,666 today. No doubt an interesting number for people everywhere. 5,555,555,555 was passed about 14 years ago. You may not realize that only 80 years ago, the population of the Earth was only around 2 billion. This shows how the population of the world has increased at an alarming rate in recent times, although the growth rate is almost half what it was at its peak in 1963, when it was 2.2%. Unrelated but also an interesting coincidence -- the estimated number of available IPv4 addresses is getting very close to 666,666,666. It should cross over today as well."
In a related useless matter, the Pope praised the medieval anti-birth control policy of theirs. And true to form, Inquirer's Antonio Montalvan or something immediately licked his ass.

256

Major league baseball teams would have to play 256 games for the real good teams to shine through. Otherwise the 162-game season is too short and some underdogs come out. Two physicists of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico who should be studying quarks instead decided to run a simulation of the baseball schedule and found that the cream will only rise if there are more games. Because there's always some chance that a lesser team will win any given game, teams would have to play a larger number of games to overcome statistical randomness—specifically, the number of games should be the cube of the total number of teams, write Eli Ben-Naim and Nick W. Hengartner in an upcoming issue of the journal Physical Review. Well, maybe that's why they placed the wild card to stir things up.
And then, of course, there is that mathematician who said that the Yankees will dominate this year. That was in April. He he he.

Sports Numbers

Sports Illustrated decided to list the best athlete by numbers. For 7, they chose quarterbuck John Elway of the Broncos over Mickey mantle, David Beckham and Big J. Secretariat, the horse, won over Derek Jeter for No. 2. Michael Jordan as 23 is easy. But how about 32? Julius Erving, OJ Simpson, Shaq, Karl Malone, Sandy Koufax and Magic all wore that. Who did they choose. Find out here.

And then Mental Floss came out with a timeguide to TV censorship. If you think it's hard to be woman? How about Miss Piggy. In 1979, Saudi TV censored her for being a .....pig. 1971 is the first time that a toilet flush is heard. Archie Bunker is All In The Family.

Is that you, Vince?
