My Sad Republic: Shanty Math

The shanty area in Guadalupe (for most of you, just a stop in the MRT) was burned yesterday. It wasn't the first time that the place got burned. The last time was in January. The report said that 110 shantyhouses were razed with 286 families having lived there. The total cost of the fire was P550,000.
The news item didn't go the next step which is:

P550,000
divided by 110 houses =
P5,000 per house.

If we share the cost with the 286 families, that goes to a little more than P2,000 per household. Let us not go into how many people per household, owing to the Aquino's population policy can go as high as 10 per household. The fire then costs each person to as low as P200 to P500 per person. $10 dollars for virtually the whole life of a person in Guadalupe Viejo.
