Gabriel Garcia Marquez Update: A New Movie

I received a Gabriel Garcia Marquez Farewell Letter from the email. Ha ha ha. This supposedly last letter had been making the rounds since 2002! It's an old hoax so don't be blue with Gabo.
But here's another true fact. GGM gave a fellow Latin American a chance to direct "Of Love and Other Demons." Hilda Hidalgo of Costa Rica will have a chance for another adaptation after the "Love in the Time of Cholera" movie was, let's say, not so well liked by the critics. Gabo was paid $3 million for "Cholera" but he is practically giving away the rights for "OLAOD" The novel, set in 18th-century Catagena (a coastal town in Colombia), is about a 12-year-old girl named Sierva Maria de Todos los Angeles who contracted rabies. People then thought Sierva was being possessed and so brought her to a nunnery but she instead fell in love with a priest. Sierva will be played by Eliza Triana, 13, whose father is Jorge Ali Triana, the Colombian director of "Tiempo de Morir" (Time to Die), another GGM novel adaptation.
Hidalgo's movie is expected early next year. But another question begs to be asked: Why is it that Gabo's novels and memoirs are bestsellers while the movie adaptations fare poorly?
