They use the stick to beat the cotton to separate the seeds. I think they call it traditional cotton ginning. They don't do this anymore because there is no cotton being grown in Vigan anymore. I think I saw a cotton field in Candon though.
Hmmmm. A write up on vigan's cotton industry of yore would be very interesting! Thanks for this binatbatan tidbit....I thought you were just being funny,conjuring the festival's name, because the paraders were holding sticks!
