South China Mall
This is the biggest mall in the world. In theory. "A seven-million-square-foot retail-and-entertainment behemoth in the heart of China’s southern Pearl River Delta, the wealthiest region in a nation that boasts the world’s biggest population and its fastest-growing major economy." With these things, it was guaranteed to live up to its billing when it opened in 2005. Now with only a dozen stores open (it was built for 1,500 stores), it is a mega-flop. The developers exactly don't know why but the rush to build supermalls in China is part of it. I hope SM could learn from this disaster, eventually the bubble would burst but the problem is that it is a concrete bubble. Read this about the South China Mall and weep for shopaholics everywhere.
