The House of Almost Spirits

Shirley Gorospe inherited the house of her grandmother in Quinavite Barangay in Bauang, La Union. Her grandmother, whom she knew as a masseur, had been dead for almost eight months and Shirley and husband Nomer were not akin to claiming the abandoned house in Quinavite because they reside in Manila. Until yesterday when they discovered the dark secret of their grandmother, according to a radio reprot here where they recounted their story. The house was bare and expectedly dusty. Nothing was amiss except that Nomer said that he felt ghosts hovering. If that was not enough, they saw little tombs around the house. There were about 15 of them. Nomer tried to excavate one tomb and got three jars with a fetus in each of them bathed in formalin. He estimated the ages of the fetus at four to seven months. The couple said that more than one fetus are buried in each of them. Today, they brought with them the Bauang police to look into each tomb and see if there are more fetuses hidden inside the abandoned house. So far, they have dug up 20 fetuses
